Despite US challenges, Huawei beats Qualcomm and Samsung in 5G patent ranking
Huawei is continuously investing in 5G technology research and development. In the market report, Huawei is shown beating Qualcomm and Samsung for the number one spot in the global 5G patent competition.
According to the Global 5G Standard-Essential Patents and Standard Proposal Research Report (2023), Huawei 5G standard essential patent ranked first in the world. The data compiled by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology reveals that Huawei has around 9000 patents.
Qualcomm and Samsung follow for the second and third spots with around 6000 and over 5000 patents respectively. The 5G patent score of Huawei beats Qualcomm and Samsung with big numbers.
To be mentioned ZTE, LG< Nokia, Ericsson, Oppo, and Xiaomi are the rest of the players in the subsequent top 10 5G patent holder list.
The number of effective global patent families of the top ten companies accounts for over 75% of the overall patent families. This is a huge sum of patents filed around the globe.
Huawei Rules:
Huawei’s effective global patent families accounted for 14.59% of the overall market and come first in the chart. Qualcomm ranks second with 10.04% shares, and Samsung sits at 3rd with 8.80%.
Massive R&D investment:
Huawei is increasing its investment in R&D with an annual expenditure of CNY161.5 billion in 2022. It accounts for 25.1% of the company’s annual revenue. Also, it brings a total R&D expenditure over the past 10 years to more than CNY977.3 billion.
“In 2022, our total R&D spend was CNY161.5 billion, representing 25.1% of our total revenue – among the highest in Huawei’s history. In times of pressure, we press on – with confidence,” said Meng Wanzhou, Rotating chairman of Huawei and CFO.
