Huawei Pura 80 series could use side fingerprint sensor, just like Mate 70

Huawei Pura 80 series has started emerging in leaks and the latest one says that the upcoming flagship could use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, just like the Mate 70. Though it may accompany some upgraded mechanism in this unlocking sensor.

The information is coming from DigitalChatStation. The tipster noted that the Huawei Pura 80 series will likely feature a side fingerprint sensor like the Mate 70.

Further inputs reveal that the Pura 80 series may continue with the same centered single punch-hole as its predecessors. It won’t feature any 3D face recognition.

A side fingerprint sensor isn’t a new solution in the smartphone world. Yet, Huawei has tried to give it a new avatar with the Mate 70 series using AI technology.

Mate 70 series uses a side fingerprint sensor integrated into the power key. It enables users to easily unlock their device and at the same time, use the button as a smart control tool to manage certain operations quickly without even opening the phone.

Capacitive Side Fingerprint Sensor

Here the tipster has mentioned a capacitive side-mounted fingerprint sensor. These scanners rely on a set of tiny capacitor circuits and use a conductive plate to detect the ridges and valleys of a finger. Thus, resulting in a safer and easier unlocking case.

Unlike the traditional solutions, a capacitive side fingerprint sensor is easily accessible and more secure. These scanners collect data via capacitors and store it.

Early reports suggested that Huawei has been working on an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for its flagship smartphones. It was expected to debut with the Mate 70 series. But the OEM introduced new handsets with a side fingerprint sensor.

Now Huawei is said to use the same Mate 70 series fingerprint solutions for the Pura 80 models. Though things are still uncertain. Perhaps the tech giant could surprise everyone by launching the next P-tagged devices with an ultrasonic fingerprint tech.
