Huawei planning to sell P and Mate series flagship lineup? Here’s what reports says

Last year, Huawei sold its smartphone subsidiary – Honor to a business consortium in China and reports online emerged that suggest that Huawei is planning to exit from its smartphone business by selling the top-end flagship lineup.

According to Reuters, Huawei is in initial talks to sell its premium smartphone brands P and Mate, says two people related to this matter while remaining to be unidentified. The report also says that the Chinese tech giant was looking to sell these brands as early as last September.

According to IDC, the combined shipment of Huawei Mate and P series was worth $39 billion between the third quarter of 2019 and the third quarter of 2020. Both of these smartphone lineups are popular among consumers and known for the build quality as well as camera capabilities.

However, Huawei has yet to make a final call on this matter and the ‘the deal might fail’, says the sources. Therefore, the company has increased its efforts to build an in-house designed chipset for high-end smartphones and remove the burden of using a U.S.-made chipset as well as dependence.

Since it’s not a normal discussion, the Huawei spokesperson has also stepped denied this report with the following statement:

“Huawei has learned there are unsubstantiated rumors circulating regarding the possible sale of our flagship smartphone brands. There is no merit to these rumors whatsoever. Huawei has no such plan.” said the spokesperson.

In the coming months, Huawei is prepping to launch the Huawei P50 series with the latest camera technology, and the company is reportedly planning to launch the next iteration of the Huawei Mate flagship later this year.

So, this year, Huawei has already laid off the plans to unveil the latest models of the P and Mate flagship and it’s not going anywhere for the year.
