Huawei P30 series and others will also get Google’s contact tracing technology: Report
Google and Apple are working together to develop a new COVID-19 contact tracing technology for Android and Apple smartphones. Previously there were some reports saying that Huawei phones will not get access to this solution.
But recently, official sources have confirmed to TechRadar, revealing that Huawei will also bring this technology for its previous smartphones that launched before May 2019.
This means Huawei P30, Mate 20 series, and other Huawei and Honor phones with GMS will be receiving this new solution from Google. However, devices launched alongside Huawei Mate 30 or later, will not be added to this queue.
Also, there’s no confirmation about the backward compatibility with Google’s COVID-19 app. Meanwhile, Huawei has not announced anything official on this matter.
COVID-19 Contact Tracing:
Google and Apple are developing a new COVID-19 contact tracing technology in a joint effort to enable the use of Bluetooth technology to help governments and health agencies reduce the spread of the virus.
First, in May, both companies will release APIs that enable interoperability between Android and iOS devices using apps from public health authorities. These official apps will be available for users to download via their respective app stores.
Second, in the coming months, Apple and Google will work to enable a broader Bluetooth-based contact tracing platform by building this functionality into the underlying platforms.
