Huawei patents hand gesture tech for car steering

A Huawei patent revealed an interesting car technology, which enables features based on the position of the driver’s hand position on the steering wheel, simply put car steering gesture.

According to the details, the patent is listed with application number CN116529125A and it was published on August 1st. Meanwhile, the filing date was mentioned as September 21, 2021.

The patent description shows that the steering wheel is virtually divided into radial segments. Each segment has a semantic meaning. Control commands related to control functions are mapped to different virtual segments of the steering.

When a user performs a gesture on the steering, the system recognizes and selects a control function based on the position of the hands on the steering.

This could be an addition to all of the voice command button control features that are already available to enable any car features. For now, Huawei has not shared any date of implementing this tech into production.
