Huawei Nova 5T users grabs May 2021 security update and started waiting for next major upgrade

Huawei Nova 5T smartphone running on EMUI 11 starts receiving a new software upgrade via OTA upgrades. According to the information, the latest update installs the May 2021 security improvements to provide better system security.

However, Huawei Nova 5T is a versatile smartphone with a large number of the shipped units across the globe. To date, it was seen that Huawei is still treating this old smartphone as a top phone in terms of sending security and major upgrades.

Software update details:

Huawei has kicked off the latest EMUI 11 version 11.0.0.162 for Nova 5T owners along with a new security patch. Also, it comes with an updated package size of 198 MB.

What’s EMUI May 2021 security patch brings?

The May 2021 security patch fixes different levels of exploits and issues including  3 critical, 10 high, and 4 medium levels of CVE for improved system security. Additionally, it resolves 13 hidden privacy issues found in the last update.

HOW TO CHECK FOR UPDATE:

To download this update manually, go to Settings then System & updates, then open Software update, from here select Check for updates. If an update is available it’ll pop up on your phone and an option of Download and install will appear. Press the option and start to download.

You can also request software updates through the Support app. To do this, open the Support app, go to the Service tab on the bottom bar, tap on the update, then select Check for updates and then download and install.

Key points for users before Updating device:

• The device must have a better battery backup to install this update that is a minimum of 50%.
• It’s compulsory to check your storage availability(Internal/External SDcard) to download the latest update as per the size required.
• A strong WiFi/mobile data connection is required for a buffer-free download of the package.

What’s the status of HarmonyOS 2.0 for the Huawei Nova 5T device:

As of now, Huawei’s HarmonyOS 2.0 beta program has not entered the global market. At the time of HarmonyOS 2.0 launch, Huawei has pushed an upgrade plan for its 100 old Chinese devices, which get an upgrade throughout 2021-22.

In the HarmonyOS eligible device list, the top model of the Nova 5 family, Huawei Nova 5 Pro is also listed, and schedule to test HarmonyOS 2 in the fourth quarter of 2021. But, the company started its beta testing earlier and enrolled it in the third batch of HM OS testing.

So, it is expected that HarmonyOS 2.0 beta activity for global variants will begin somewhere in the last quarter of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022. Also, the Nova 5 series has already started to receive HarmonyOS 2 beta testing. Therefore, the same fate would be decided for this quad-camera device.

At the moment, Huawei has not released any official HarmonyOS upgrade plan for global Huawei device users. We have to wait a little more for official confirmation. Until then stay tuned!
