Huawei also wants ChatGPT? Applied for ‘NetGPT’ trademark

On April 27, China’s trademark patent office showed that Huawei had applied for the registration of the “Huawei NetGPT” trademark. This is quite interesting, as Huawei has already shown interest that it won’t integrate ChatGPT but has more powerful AI technologies.

According to the information, the trademark is classified under Class 9 scientific instrument and the current trademark status is pending.

Currently, GPT-like AI apps are very popular on the internet. Many companies have developed their own ChatGPT clones in order to pursue users. Now, the information shows that Huawei is also applying for the registration of GPT-related trademarks. Could it be that it also wants to launch GPT-like applications?

This is a very curious question and we’d love to hear the answer. However, It doesn’t seem that we’ll going to get it soon enough.

For those who don’t know, GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (Generative Pre-Training Transformer Model) and is an Internet-based, data-available, and text-generating deep learning model.

ChatGPT:

This app has become a massive storm in the world of AI and Machine learning technologies. According to the data, ChatGPT got one million users in only five days after it launched on November 30, 2022. 57 million users were acquired by December 2022 and 100 million users by January 2023. This is a massive progress in a short time.

ChatGPT is also very popular in China but analysts believe that ChatGPT is not innovative. It is the comprehensive application of past industry technology exploration in the field of AI. Major Chinese firms including Baidu, Ali, Byte, and 360 have also achieved applications similar to ChatGPT.

Huawei NetGPT:

Huawei’s application for registration of GPT trademarks does not mean that Huawei will develop related applications. Industry experts say that Chiese players must adhere to the long-term expansion of language models, and not be blindly optimistic about quick wins or pessimistic.

Who knows what will happen next, but we’ll keep you posted.
