Counterpoint research firm has released a new report on the 2024 global and Chinese wearable market, saying that this time, Huawei will likely witness rapid growth in the smartwatch category. In this segment, HarmonyOS will play a significant role.

The report states that the global smartwatch market with HLOS (high-level operating system) or advanced models could achieve a strong growth rate of 15% this year.

Further details reveal that contenders like Google Wear OS and Huawei HarmonyOS will register a noteworthy progress rate in the wearable market in 2024.

Huawei could obtain 61% market in the 2024 Chinese wearable market. Major credit goes to HarmonyOS as the tech giant is constantly seeding new and effective software versions to its wrist gadgets for an innovative and reliable user experience.

Apple has been a powerful player in the global smartwatch market and was leading in the advanced wearable sector alongside Samsung so far. But it looks like other tech rivals like Google and Huawei are ready for better growth adoption in 2024.

Google will seemingly mount to 27% this year with advanced wearables running on the Wear OS such as the Pixel Watch, OnePlus Watch 2, Galaxy Watch 6, and more.

Counterpoint notes that consumers are seeking better user experience and seem ready to pick a premium smartwatch rather than settling with the budget-friendly one.

In that case, Google Wear OS may appear as a good option for it consists of various interesting features like third-party app installation, Google AI assistant, accurate health-related functions, customizations, incredible battery features, and more.

Qualcomm is another participant in this race which will continue to attract its customers towards Wear OS-powered smartwatches at least on the global ground.

HarmonyOS in China

While Google could lead in the worldwide market, HarmonyOS is ready to take charge in China. The Associate Director of the Counterpoint firm – Ethan Qi says:

“In 2023, the overall HarmonyOS shipments grew almost 2x, surpassing Apple’s WatchOS. HarmonyOS’ shipment share is further estimated to reach 61% in China in 2024, up from 48% in 2023.”

Ethan believes that the launch of Huawei 5G phones last year could work as a root cause in the upliftment of the HarmonyOS-powered wearables in the 2024 Chinese market. It will also add a new pace in the native region.
