Huawei MateBook GT 14 to use a discrete GPU chip: Leak
News regarding the Huawei MateBook GT 14 says the notebook may use a discrete GPU chip. The term “discrete” (detachable) hints that the upcoming product may focus on enhanced gaming scenarios and powerful performance efficiency.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus says the Huawei MateBook GT 14 has a discrete GPU chip. Unlike other PCs that run on an integrated GPU processor, the company may implement a detachable GPU to the upcoming notebook for boosted functioning.
Let’s understand the difference between ordinary and discrete GPUs.
Integrated or ordinary GPU chips are the most common GPUs. These are equipped with the same CPU processor and share power. One can easily handle daily tasks or normal gaming with these chips. They are efficient but can’t handle heavy operations.
Discrete or detachable GPU chip (dGPU) is a graphics processing unit that remains separate from the CPU. It enables the CPU to focus solely on the processing capacity without sharing energy. They are better for heavy workloads, gaming, or 3D rendering.
Being a removable graphics card, it possesses powerful capabilities for various operations. For instance, running high-performance apps, 3D games, and more.
Benefits:
- It can be upgraded as per users’ requirements
- Boosts CPU performance
- Can outperform equivalent notebooks with integrated chips
Although the discrete GPU can affect the battery life or take up more space in the device. But if Huawei is using this chip, it might have a solution to these issues.
Devices like the MateBook 16, 13, and MateBook X Pro (previous models) already support discrete graphics processing chips. It would be interesting to see what new changes the company will make to the upcoming notebook.
The Chinese phone maker has not confirmed this news so far. Also, it doesn’t match with previous revelations that stated the MateBook GT 14 won’t be a gaming PC. Hence, we have to wait for the official details on this subject to get clarification.
Huawei MateBook GT 14 will be the next flagship in the notebook shelf. It would be the first product in the “GT notebook” line. Perhaps the OEM is putting efforts into making the new device a solid and perfect PC for consumers, especially game lovers.
