Huawei Mate 70 series to use next-gen Kunlun glass and basalt coating: Leak

Huawei Mate 70 series is expected to launch in November this year and the flagship lineup could feature the next-gen Kunlun glass and basalt coating. An upgraded body framework will likely ensure better durability of the device in all aspects.

Tipster @BeijingDigitalMaster says the Huawei Mate 70 series will equip a new generation of Kunlun glass and basalt architecture. These additions to the lineup will enhance the robustness of the device, making it tougher to external damage.

Input adds that the next Mate lineup will adopt a super durable screen. A high-end screen solution keeps the device display in a good state despite prolonged use.

For now, it’s unclear which solution the company will impose on the new Mate phones. Although we might grab hints on this matter in the upcoming weeks.

The current leak slightly contradicts a previous report which said the Mate 70 series may adopt the same basalt coating as the Mate 60. Basalt coating mainly refers to a super-hard AR material, made of solidified magma. It has several minerals that increase the strength and stiffness of an ordinary glass by 40%.

Basalt architecture is also known for its thermal insulation properties that ensure lesser power consumption. An upgraded basalt framework will make the Mate 70 series stronger and more durable than the previous-gen smartphones.

Kunlun glass is a protective glass that is immensely resistant to scratches, drops, and other risk factors. It even surpasses the “Gorilla Glass” in optical quality, higher drop, and scratch resistance. Huawei has made this solution with nano-microcrystalline glass by producing 10 quadrillion-level strong nanocrystals in glass.

The Chinese OEM introduced the Kunlun Glass with Mate 50 series in 2022. Huawei upgraded this solution for the Mate 60 Pro. With Mate 70 models, consumers may find the third-generation Kunlun glass, made with even better processes.

Regarding the screen solution, the tipster didn’t describe many details. But early reports suggested that the next Mate lineup will feature both flat and curved displays depending on their variants. A leak also said that the Mate 70 could use bigger screen sizes than the Pura 70 flagship.
