Huawei Mate 70 series shadows iPhone 16 presence in China

Huawei Mate 70 series and the iPhone 16 are the most discussed topics in China. Both lineups land on the ground with tech-pack features and top-of-the-line components. Yet, the former smartphone seems a bit stronger than the latter in many aspects.

The Chinese tech giant never misses a chance to give a tough spot to Apple in its home ground. After the Mate XT tri-fold, the OEM now introduced the “powerful” Huawei Mate 70 series that seemingly shadows the iPhone 16 presence in China.

Apple iPhone 16 launched in China in September, a day before the Mate XT launch event. Despite major characteristics, the AI-less iPhone 16 models didn’t attract much fame in Apple’s second-largest smartphone market.

On the other hand, the unique form factor of Huawei Mate XT grabbed the full attention of consumers and dimmed the ‘GlowTime’ of the Apple iPhone 16 series.

Now Huawei Mate 70 series is here to push back iPhone 16 in the Chinese smartphone race. That says the latest sale scenarios in China. Let’s explore the matter.

Huawei Mate 70 series surpassed 6.7 million orders so far. Interestingly, most of the registered users are iPhone holders. They wanted to switch their Apple handsets with the newly launched Mate 70 smartphones for their dynamic characteristics.

Some Apple iPhone owners even gathered on second-hand trading platforms to sell their iPhones and purchase the Mate 70 series, despite a higher price.

Apple is still in the top position when it comes to the best premium phones in China. But we can’t deny the fact that the company faces a decline every time in the ranking. Two major reasons are consumers’ support and lack of innovation.

Chinese consumers mainly support native products, following the self-reliant path. They are prohibiting the use of Apple products in the country.

The Founder of 360 Group – Zhou Hongyi believes that Huawei is several times ahead of Apple in innovation. While Apple follows the same brick-like design for its iPhones every year (iPhone 16 is an exception), Huawei has changed its pattern for P and Mate lines.

Pura 70 series this time appeared with a unique triangular camera look. The Mate XT tri-fold is another example in this segment, rising as a champion of the foldable sector.

Huawei and Apple currently rule the Chinese premium smartphone sector. However, it would be worth seeing which one among the Mate 70 and iPhone 16 will lead the smartphone race in the time ahead.
