Huawei stores reportedly taking Mate 70 offline pre-orders [Updated]

Huawei started taking pre-orders for the Mate 70 series flagship smartphones through its offline stores in China, reported local media.

Update: Several of the Huawei Stores in Beijing said that they’ve not received any reservation notifications from the company. These stores have also told Chinese media that no such launch date has been revealed for this device prior to November. Some store staff said that these might only be blind reservations limited to big stores.

Mate is one of the two most popular Huawei smartphone lineups for consumers. Last year, the company made a comeback with a dual flagship launch strategy and revealed the Mate 60 series. The launch was pretty unexpected due to some surprising elements.

The Chinese tech maker didn’t approach traditional ways to reveal the device. Instead, it entered sale under a ‘Pioneer Program’, allowing a large customer base to buy Mate 60 before a full-fledged sale. Interestingly, the program was first opened for offline customers through Huawei’s retail store chain in China. Then, it widely expanded online.

This was the first time a well-known phone maker attempted such a strategy of rolling a flagship device without organizing a conference in the first place.

This might be the same case with Huawei Mate 70. Earlier today, an offline Huawei store account on TikTok posted a video, saying that the new generation of the flagship Mate series device will be launched soon and it’s now available for pre-orders.

The teaser mentioned the Mate 70 series but showed the Mate 60 as a reference. However, the design remained hidden as far as seen in the video clip. Such pre-orders are quite common in China and customers can book a device without checking design or specifications.

I’ve verified that there is no online listing available on both official Huawei Vmall and JD stores. So, only Huawei store visitors can shed some light on this matter.

Huawei will upgrade the Mate 70 series with a new design material and improve its aesthetic over its predecessor. The phone will use a new Kirin chipset for improved performance AI capabilities. It will also bring the HarmonyOS NEXT operating system pre-installed.

For now, Huawei has not revealed anything about its launch date, which is expected to happen in November if not in October.
