Huawei Mate 70 series continues to swirl in leaks and the latest one says that the upcoming flagship could bring a “Titanium” model. If true, this would be the first smartphone lineup in the company to feature a new frame over all other devices.

As the Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu noted, Huawei will continue the ‘Star ring’ design for the next Mate series. The standard and Pro models may use circular camera rings as Mate 60 whereas, the RS Ultimate Design variant will adopt the octagonal shape.

The leak further states that the Huawei Mate 70 series could come with a new Titanium version. Even though the company has used this material for its wearables, this would be the first time when it may implement it on flagship smartphones.

Responding to some netizens, the tipster implied that the alleged titanium frame could be exclusive to the Pro+ variant. The RS Ultimate Design model, on the other hand, could still have a ceramic body, just like its predecessor – the Mate 60 RS.

In recent times, titanium has become a popular material among phone makers. Apple was the first to introduce this alloy with the iPhone 15 series in September last year. The firm replaced its long-used stainless steel with this material following its benefits.

Titanium has a lower density which significantly reduces the overall mass of the devices, making them lightweight. Another benefit is its strength. Titanium bears higher strength compared to stainless steel and aluminum alloy materials.

Also, titanium has anti-corrosion properties. It protects your handset from external damages like high drops. All these points help in increasing the lifespan of a device.

Smartphone makers like Samsung have started adopting titanium for their flagship handsets like Galaxy S24 Ultra. Thus, it won’t be a surprise if Huawei follows the same suit. Although the Chinese tech giant has not confirmed the news yet.

A durability test showed that despite a strong titanium frame, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro surpassed the iPhone 15 Pro. The rear panel of the iPhone 15 Pro Max cracked. However, this was due to the low glass quality and not the titanium frame.

If the current leak is accurate, it would be worth seeing how Huawei will use the titanium frame for its upcoming premium lineup.
