Huawei Mate 60 series to pack Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Huawei is about to launch the P60 series but the company has also scheduled a second flagship phone for later this year, the Mate 60 lineup. The latest input on this matter reveals that the Huawei Mate 60 series features Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

According to the input coming from a Weibo tipster, the Huawei Mate 60 series will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. However, it’s likely to be 4G only.

We don’t have an official confirmation on this matter but it makes sense for the company could invest better in this chipset. If Huawei aiming to launch Mate 60 series in the second half of this year, it could efficiently utilize the new chip but depending on the launch time, which could be around October, the tech firm may not be able to fetch down the latest Gen 3 chipset, as it Qualcomm holds new flagship unveilings around December.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 4G mobile platform is built based on TSMC’s 4nm node process. The CPU part consists of 1 super core, 4 large cores, and 3 small cores. There is a big Cortex X3 core and the CPU frequency reached 3.2GHz. The main frequency of the large core is 2.8GHz, the main frequency of the small core is 2.0GHz, and the Adreno 740 GPU is integrated.

Looking at the battery life, the new Gen 2 chipset brings you 40% CPU efficiency and a 45% reduction in Adreno GPU power intakes. As compared to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 used in Huawei Mate 50 lineup, the Gen 2 chip on Antutu scored 1.3 million points.

We expect the Huawei Mate 60 series to launch with the HarmonyOS 4 operating system along with a variety of new features.

Currently, Huawei is preparing to unveil the P60 series and it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. Meanwhile, the device has already entered production and we’re yet to see news about mass production.
