News regarding Huawei shows that the Mate 60 smartphone and the Mate X5 foldable have qualified for the OpenHarmony compatibility test. Both flagship models now support the open-source distributed operating system based on HarmonyOS.

OpenHarmony compatibility test refers to the verification of products’ parts and internal components. It inspects if partners’ devices or business apps comply with the technical requirements of OpenHarmony for a long and stable journey.

This experiment also ensures that the product will remain consistent with business experiences. Hence, the company conducts this compatibility test for its devices.

The information reveals that Huawei Mate 60 and Mate X5 passed the OpenHarmony Compatibility test on June 8, 2024. Both devices now support the OpenHarmony 4.1 release version and will likely adapt to its functionalities.

Earlier, HarmonyOS and OpenHarmony-powered devices did not support interoperability. As a result, it became impossible to share work-related data or collaborate with colleagues. But the latest activity hints that Huawei may improve this condition in the time ahead.

During the HDC 2024 event, Huawei introduced the HarmonyOS NEXT beta. The company said that the new version is a full-scenario intelligent OS based on OpenHarmony.

The company’s Consumer Business Group Chairman – Yu Chengdong also announced that HarmonyOS has completed 900 installations. Over 5000 apps have even started the HarmonyOS native app development out of which 1500 completed the process.

It would be worth seeing what the company plans to do next related to the HarmonyOS for its devices.
