Huawei licensing ODN technology to Argentina’s Quality Tech

On June 29, 2023, Huawei announced a patent license agreement with Argentina’s Quality Tech S.R.L to grant the use of Optical Distribution Network (ODN) technology. This agreement signing also highlights that Quality Tech is the first company in Latin American company to sign a patent license agreement with Huawei.

According to the information, Huawei will grant a license to quality Tech and its customers with reasonable royalties. The agreement will also Quality Tech to provide legal rights to access and use Huawei ODN technology in all ways under the agreement.

Over the past two years, Huawei further improved its R&D investment, and past reports suggest that the company is spending at least 25% of its annual revenue.

“Huawei owns a plurality of patents relating to fast ODN deployment, which can improve service provisioning efficiency and reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) by 15–30% during ODN deployment,” said Wu Zhijian, Huawei’s Head of Americas Intellectual Property Rights Department.

“Huawei is pleased to reach this license agreement with Quality Tech, which will help operators build 10G PON infrastructure networks and support the faster digital transformation of local societies”, Wu added.
