Huawei Mate XT triple-foldable is now official and it has debuted with the first dual-hinge system. The new mechanism claims to offer strength to the tri-fold phone. It ensures that reliability remains at its peak regardless of multiple folding times.

The Chinese phone maker has used the “Tiangong” dual-hinge system for the Mate XT Ultimate Design. This folding solution uses two technologies: the largest UTG screen for the internal screen and the non-Newtonian fluid for the external panel.

Let’s understand both terms in detail:

UTG Panel: Ultra-Thin Glass is familiar for its flat and thin display. It easily bends and has scratch-resistant properties. The panel decreases the stress on the folding part, lessens the chances of cracks or scratches, and ensures durability.

Huawei has used the UTG tech on the inner screen to obtain a dual-track linkage. This link will allow the device to bend inside out simultaneously without any issues.

Non-Newtonian fluid: It is a material that can easily shift the viscosity based on the force applied to it. It is mainly sandwiched between the panels and shields the top and bottom display layers from the drop impact and other external damage.

The tech giant used this fluid part on the outer display panels. Together, these solutions form a composite laminated dual-hinge layer. It not only eases the folding but also increases the resistance impact by 30% compared to a book-type foldable.

Huawei Mate XT triple-foldable dual-hinge system comes with three screens. These have different dimensions but bear the same visual capabilities. You can check the details below:

  • Single Screen (2232 x 1008 pixels): 73.5 mm wide, 12.8 mm thick, 6.4-inch
  • Double Screen (2232 x 2048 pixels): 143.0 mm wide, 7.45 mm/4.75 mm thick, 7.9-inch
  • Three-screen (2232 x 3184 pixels): 219.0 mm wide, 3.6/3.6/4.75mm thick, 10.2-inch

The company has used the OLED LTPO panels with a 240Hz maximum touch response, a 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, a P3 wide color gamut, and 1.07 billion colors.
