Huawei introduces its second smartphone with open-source Android 10 and HMS
Huawei today officially started taking pre-order of Huawei Nova 7i in Malaysia, featuring punch-hole display, 48MP quad rear camera, powered by Kirin 810 and a big battery that supports 40W superfast charging.
Also, the Huawei Nova 7i is the second phone launched by Huawei in the international market that runs open-source Android 10/EMUI 10 and doesn’t come with Google Mobile Services (GMS). Instead, it features Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).
In September last year, Huawei launched Huawei Mate 30 series as the first flagship with Android 10 + HMS. This happened due to the U.S. trade ban, prohibiting Google to stop licensing new Huawei devices with GMS.
Huawei Mobile Service (HMS) incorporates Huawei’s chip, device and cloud capabilities, including a full portfolio of HMS Core services and related IDE tools platforms for development and testing, along with key applications for Huawei devices.
The absence of GMS means that Huawei Nova 7i equips apps such as Huawei AppGallery, Huawei Assistant and Huawei Browser, Huawei Cloud, Huawei Wallet, and Huawei Video, Huawei Music and Huawei Reader.
Other than Huawei Nova 7i, Huawei has already introduced Huawei Nova 6 series, Honor V30 series, MatePad Pro (tablet) with open source android and HMS last year in China but these smartphones aren’t available outside of Chinese territory.
