Huawei is taking steps towards the Chinese robotics sector to enhance its AI potential. A new report says the tech giant is investing in a robot-making firm. This move will help the OEM improve the technological development in its home ground.

Qichacha – a Chinese corporate database noted that Huawei is investing $413 million (3 billion yuan) in a robotics company Dongguan Jimu to boost its AI capabilities.

Dongguan Jimu Machinery in China makes electronics components. It also focuses on technical research, technology transfer, experimental development, and more.

It’s not the first time when Huawei has come in touch with Jimu Machinery. Last year, the company registered a capital of 870 million yuan ($121 million) in the firm.

At that time, both firms were said to indulge in the import/export of goods, engineering and technical research, tech exchange, and more. The inputs also mentioned that Huawei wholly owned the Jimu Machinery Co., Ltd. It seems, the company is spending some more amount in this firm, hinting at a new tech journey.

The OEM hasn’t commented on the news nor made any announcement on this topic. However, the latest investment hints that after the smartphone and EV industry, Huawei is set to move into the Chinese robotics field.

In recent times, Huawei has increased its focus on AI growth. The company recently opened an AI center in Shenzhen to accelerate AI implementation in robots. This center further involves work on computing power and other AI tech manufacturing.

Huawei AI Center has also cooperated with Leju Robot and Han’s Robot to expand its ground in China. The tech maker has been testing new embodied models since 2022. It tested a water robot by Dataa Robotics. Dataa said to use Huawei’s Ascend AI computing service to produce new large models and robotics applications.

Last year, Leju Robot integrated Huawei’s Pangu LLM model into its first robot. As per the World Robotics 2024 report, China is ahead of Germany and Japan in the robotics field. With Huawei’s new steps, China will achieve new heights in the robotics sector in the future.
