Huawei EMUI 12: How and Why, if HarmonyOS is here?

Recently, Huawei has unveiled the EMUI 12 operating system that comes with a number of new features, UI design, and brand new user experience that provides better and performs greater than EMUI 11.

However, the EMUI 12 software was first released with Huawei Nova 8, even before the official listing. The entire scenario was really surprising as well as doubtful. The question was, how and why Huawei launched EMUI 12?

Let’s explore the possibilities.

HarmonyOS: New Mobile operating system

It’s also related to the HarmonyOS, and the entire story circles around. To recall, the HarmonyOS 2 supports multiple platforms including smartphones. Or should we say, it’s specially designed for smartphone devices and makes them a Super Device?

This new operating system was unveiled at Huawei Developer Conference 2020 (HDC 2020). After months of testing, HarmonyOS 2.0 made its official debut on July 2, 2021.

Since its launch, HarmonyOS has been installed in over 50 million devices in China, which is a big achievement and the numbers are still increasing. Meanwhile, the global HarmonyOS debut is yet to be made but Huawei global models owners are waiting to get their hands on this new OS.

EMUI 12: Same UI as HarmonyOS

EMUI 12 has a new user interface, better than EMUI 11. Interestingly, this new EMUI has the same look and feel as the HarmonyOS. Moreover, the same features are replicated can be found everywhere on this software.

The features including Device Plus have some of the good functionalities that reflect on the ground and are inspired by HarmonyOS’ Super Device but it’s actually not that powerful.

EMUI 12 is surely a masterpiece that will be satisfied by the current global Huawei device owner. When, it’ll expand to more devices? It’s yet to be known but the current Huawei strategy on EMUI 12 and HarmonyOS is hard to understand. As the EMUI 12 claims to be HarmonyOS and Android together.

Just promoting HarmonyOS?

Following the launch of HarmonyOS, everyone thought that EMUI 11 will be the last ride from the EMUI lineup. However, the arrival of the latest EMUI version has shattered all of those doubts.

Even after, this unveiling, a doubt remained intact with our thinking. Why Huawei is keeping the EMUI software alive, is it to promote HarmonyOS as a base software, while keeping base software hidden in the starting?

Furthermore, even if the EMUI 12 uses HarmonyOS kernel, it’s not clearly mentioned anywhere in the Huawei Nova 8. However, some of the Nova 8 devices show the HarmonyOS boot screen and there was no information of HarmonyOS inside.

To be mentioned, Huawei is not using HarmonyOS reference on the EMUI 12 listing of the official website. Both software has separate pages on the consumer version of the Huawei website.

Just for Now:

HarmonyOS is currently suitable only for the Chinese market, the lack of native apps and initially, the development environment is clearly there. The availability of the EMUI 12 could give Huawei more time to prepare HarmonyOS for the global market. Until then, EMUI 12 will become the buzzword for the global Huawei smartphone users.

Above any confusion or doubts. We’ll keep you posted on this matter…
