Huawei outshines Samsung in the Q1 2024 global wearable device market, as per the IDC report. The research firm has recently shed light on the shipment of wearables and hearables worldwide and the growth of the top tech vendors under this category.

The report highlights that Huawei has ranked third in the Q1 2024 global wearable device market, pushing Samsung to the fourth spot. The Chinese OEM sold 10 million+ wearable and hearable products worldwide, scoring a 9.6% market share.

Compared to the last year (same period), Huawei wrist gadgets and audio wearable shipments have increased by 4.6 million. The company also has the highest annual growth rate: 72.4% among its contenders in the latest worldwide ranking report.

IDC says that Huawei has achieved this grade due to its strong comeback in the smartphone business. Following the Mate 60 Pro success, the firm has seen positive growth in every category including tablets, wearables, and PCs, in the markets.

Other competitors:

Apple has won the trophy of the Q1 2024 global wearable device race with 20.6 million unit shipments. Despite heavy sales, the OEM’s market share has declined from 24.5% (last year) to 18.2% with an 18.9% decrease in the annual progress.

The American tech maker is currently facing certain challenges in the market like a short sanction on a few wearables and a void of new AirPods on the shelves.

Next is Xiaomi which has grabbed the second position with sales of 11.8 million units and 10.5% market share. Samsung appeared in fourth place with a 10.6 million unit shipment and a 13.0% YoY increase. Last but not least, Indian manufacturer boAT has achieved fifth rank with growth in audio wearables and a decline in wrist gadgets.

Further inputs in the report show that the global wearable market is at new heights with an 8.8% rise in this quarter. A total of 113.1 million units shipped in the first three months of 2024. The Research Director at IDC – Ramon T. Llamas says:

“The appetite for wearables is not lost on emerging markets, but higher priced wearables from premium brands make them cost prohibitive for many. That opens the door for local brands to introduce low-cost yet feature-laden devices to meet this unsatiated demand, helping firms like Xiaomi and boAt.”
