With the return of Kirin, there is a concern that Huawei would find it hard to keep this new chip in production but it seems like the company has already gathered enough Kirin 9000S chipset to cover all of the 5G phones until 2024.

The latest input coming from a well-known Weibo tipster – Fixedfocus revealed that Huawei has prepared a massive arsenal of new Kirin 9000s chipset. In numbers, the stock size could go up by 40-45 million, which is way more than what we have expected.

Compared to last year, Huawei increased its shipment plans for this year’s smartphone shipment forecast to 30 million. The change comes amid a significant rise in demand for Huawei phones in China over the first quarter of this year.

That led the company to revise the current forecast of mobile shipments to 40 million units by the end of 2023. Soon enough, the company saw a major shift in its demand with the Huawei Mate 60 Pro.

Huawei launched this surprising flagship on August 29 and making online and offline promotions. Despite an eye-catching design and powerful specifications, its new chipset became a major point of discussion.

Teardown from media found that Huawei Mate 60 Pro is using a new chipset named Kirin 9000s. This chip is reportedly designed by HiSilicon, Huawei’s semiconductor designing subsidiary. Meanwhile, the production is done by SMIC, a Chinese US-banned chip producer.

The combination of these two is quite complicated and the outcome they’ve achieved is even more hard to comprehend. Interestingly, Huawei is not promoting the Kirin 9000s with the Huawei Mate 60 series or separately. The company also has not published any statement on the chip’s processing node or its current capacity.

With the reported numbers, Huawei could move forward in 2024 to cover almost 50-70% of its 5G phones, if not all throughout the year. This includes the year opener flagship – the Huawei P70 series. However, we’ll wait for Huawei to share some more information on this matter.
