Huawei is still ahead of Apple in the Chinese tablet market for Q2 2024. A new report says that the MatePad developer scored the highest number of shipments in tablet field. The OEM continues to retain its value in both home ground and global regions.

IDC has released a new report on the tablet market in China in Q2 2024. The market grew by 7% YoY, selling around 7.2 million units in the last three months.

The research firm further listed the top five tech vendors that contributed to the Chinese tablet market in Q2 2024 and Huawei is among them. The company stands at the top with a shipment increase of 46.9% compared to the last year, same period.

Huawei’s market share hiked by 28.4% in the second quarter of this year. This is a 7.7% year-on-year increase – thanks to new tablets like MatePad 11.5 S that landed on the ground with a slim design, smart AI features, and several new capabilities.

IDC reports that MatePad 11.5 S showed good sales performance as it launched. This ultimately helped Huawei to grow in the consumer market in that specific quarter. The firm also focused on the commercial sector with upgraded Qingyun tablets.

However, the research organization adds that the company still has room for improvement, especially in mid-to-high-priced products. Yet things may change for good in the time ahead. Huawei will continue to upgrade its products with better tech.

Despite a lack of advanced chips and technologies, Huawei has once again surpassed Apple in the tablet race. The U.S. tech giant followed Huawei in second place with 28.0% market share. New iPads have tried to attract customers well, but the high price has been a major issue. The company sees a fall of 8.1% YoY in market shares.

Xiaomi ranks third with 12.8% of the market share. With the help of online promotions and cost-effective tablets, the company’s tablet shipment has increased in the second quarter of this year. Compared to the last year, the firm progressed 1.9%.

Honor is in the fourth spot and increased its market share by 1.8% since the last year (second quarter). Tablet 9 Pro and Z7 with improved display and performance helped the OEM to make its place in the consumer market, under the mid-to-high range category.

The fifth ranker is Lenovo that risen in the Chinese tablet race with double-digit growth in both consumer and commercial products. IDC states that the 12 to 14-inch tablets have been a major focus among consumers in the second quarter of this year. Chinese consumer tablet market saw a growth of 8.0% YoY whereas, the commercial dropped by 3.1% YoY.
