Huawei Cloud introduces regional AI weather forecast Pangu model in China
Huawei Cloud has now unveiled its regional AI weather forecast Pangu model in China. Months ago, the company collaborated with the official Meteorological Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality to build this product to elevate weather forecasting.
During the World Meteorological Day 2024 occasion on March 23, the Shenzhen Municipality and Huawei Cloud announced the regional AI weather forecast Pangu Model in China. Besides, the company described its benefits and functioning aspects.
From the term, the regional AI weather forecast Pangu model helps in covering a wide area in China and predicting the weather in advance. It is capable of generating a five-day forecast report for a 3km range area accurately without interruptions.
This weather forecast model is a fusion of AI tech, Chinese culture, and an efficient weather data handling system. The company pre-trained this model on high-quality regional datasets. It can even define wind speed, precipitation, and temperature.
Huawei Cloud has now put this Pangu model into official use. During the trial made last month, the respective AI weather mechanism showed high accuracy while predicting multiple cold-temperature scenarios. Following years of exploration for a brilliant weather model, the Shenzhen Municipality in China has now achieved true outcomes.
Huawei Cloud and the Meteorological Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality further plan to continue enhancing the new weather forecast model and use it to provide precise information for weather forecasters.
The President of Huawei Cloud Marketing Department – Willian Dong says:
“The launch of this regional AI weather model for Shenzhen means that AI can provide new ways to enable accurate, smaller-scale weather forecasts. It also marks an important scientific development, defining how scientific discoveries can be applied well beyond the laboratory to provide tangible benefits.”
