Huawei climbs to first spot in 2023 European patent applications ranking
Huawei issues innovative and significant applications when it comes to patent filing and the company has now climbed to the first place in the 2023 European patent ranking. The Chinese tech giant leads the path, surpassing many top tech vendors.
The European Patent Office (EPO) has recently shared the records of patent filings in the last year via the 2023 Patent Index report. Ahead, the detail highlights the top ten applicants with impressive applications and Huawei is one of them.
According to the inputs, Huawei has ranked first in the 2023 European patent applications ranking. The Chinese tech giant has achieved this position for three years in a row by issuing the largest number of applications (5071).
On the other hand, the company has overtaken tech firms like Samsung, and Qualcomm in this listing. Eventually, Samsung obtained second place followed by LG, Qualcomm, Ericsson, and others. You can see these vendors’ rankings below.
Region-wise, a large number of patent applications arrived from the U.S., Germany, Japan, China, and South Korea. Meanwhile, a total of 199275 applications were filed to the EPO department last year, which is an increase of 2.9% YoY.
It is worth mentioning that the patent applications reveal how much a company is investing in research and development. Undoubtedly, the Chinese tech company – Huawei is currently at the top in this aspect.
Huawei has been constantly spending on the R&D segment. In a recent conference, the Managing Director of Huawei – Wang Tao said that around 20% of the company’s revenue goes into R&D investment which made it the top five investor in the world.
