Huawei’s chip-making division – HiSilicon has sold more smartphone chipsets compared to the Qualcomm in the first quarter of 2020 and became China’s number one chipset supplier.

According to the research conduct by CINNO research, HiSilicon shipped 22.21 million smartphone chipsets in the first quarter of 2020. This figure is nearly identical to the shipment last year.

The report reveals that the HiSilicon managed to increase its market share to 43.9%, from 24.3% in the first quarter of 2019 amid COVID-10 pandemic.

The research firm did not reveal the shipment record of Qualcomm and other chipmakers. However, it mentioned that Qualcomm declined to 32.8% in the first quarter compared to 48.1% during the same timeline in 2019.

Unlike Qualcomm, Huawei only makes chipset for itself and doesn’t sales them in the market. On the other hand, Qualcomm sells its chipsets to smartphone makers.

The data also shows, more than 90% of the smartphone from Huawei uses Kirin processors. In the past month, Huawei has already introduced two new 5G chipset – Kirin 820 and Kirin 985.
