Huawei and Xiaomi marks 5G patent deal, could end dispute

Today, Huawei and Xiaomi mark the patent cross-licensing agreement, which includes different segments of technology transfer including 5G. With the deal, we may have a chance that the dispute between the tech firm will now come to an end but there’s no confirmation on that available.

Statements from both sides appeared on this matter.

“We are delighted to reach this licensing deal with Xiaomi,” said Alan Fan, Head of Huawei’s Intellectual Property Department. “This licensing agreement once again reflects the industry’s recognition of Huawei’s contributions to communications standards and will help us enhance our investment in researching future mobile communications technologies.”

Ran Xu, Xiaomi’s General Manager of Corporate Business Development and IP Strategy, said, “We are glad to reach a patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei. This shows that both parties recognize and respect each other’s intellectual property. As part of our commitment to our values around IP, Xiaomi will, as always, respect IP, seek long-term and sustainable IP partnerships for shared success, drive technology inclusion with IP, and allow more people to benefit from technology.”

Patent dispute:

Earlier this year, Huawei filed a patent rights infringement suit against Xiaomi in China and there are four patents that are at the core of this infringement case. The disputed patent consists of tech for sending control signaling, a feature for feeding back ACK/NACK information during carrier aggregation, base station, and user equipment. The third patent includes a camera feature and another phone-related feature. However, the case was pending at a Chinese patent office.

This dispute is not mentioned in the latest Huawei Xiaomi 5G patent agreement. You can read more about this patent dispute here.
