Huawei and Samsung to wrestle on foldable phone panel volume in Q2 2024
Huawei and Samsung may face off again at foldable phone WrestleMania in Q2 2024 for display panel volume, says a recent DSCC report. But this time, the tables may turn in the South Korean firm’s favor, surpassing the Chinese phone maker.
DSCC has predicted the foldable phone display panel volume status in Q2 2024, especially for Huawei and Samsung. It recalls that Q1 2024 saw a 46% YoY increase in foldable panel shipment which may continue to rise in the second quarter as well.
A total of 3.94 million foldable units shipped in the first three months of this year. Though the folding device market may see new heights in Q2 2024 with a total shipment of 9.25 million, following Samsung and Huawei’s panel procurement.
Tech Vendors:
In the first quarter, Huawei led the foldable panel volume ranking by 55% of the share – thanks to Mate X5 and Pocket 2 phones. Both devices are winning attention in the Chinese market for 5G capabilities, new Kirin chips, and other features.
But the second quarter appears to be more interesting. Samsung Display began screen panel shipment one month prior (April) for its sixth-gen Galaxy Z foldables. The report says that Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 could be the top two models in Q2 2024.
Samsung might obtain 52% of the foldable market share in Q2 2024 while Huawei could shift to the second rank with 27%. The South Korean firm may get this achievement due to the new models with higher display panel volume obtainment.
Huawei will still lead: DSCC
The Chinese OEM has been leading the foldable phone panel graph for two straight quarters. Now Samsung seems ready to battle with its next Galaxy Z folding devices. Yet, DSCC states that Huawei will likely be at the top on a sell-in basis for Q2.
2024 foldable phone market: Prediction
DSCC cites that Samsung could see a decline from 54% to 48%. The list further counts Huawei increasing from 18 to 28%, and Honor. Around 38 models are likely to purchase display panels this year out of which, Huawei could have four handsets.
