Huawei and Midea opens Southeast Asia’s first fully 5G-connected factory
Midea – an electric appliance producer and Huawei have recently opened Southeast Asia’s first 5G factory. This factory in eastern Thailand aims to boost production efficiency, aid in high-quality product development, and reduce operational defects.
Huawei and Midea teamed up in 2021 to jointly build the first-ever 5G factory in China’s Hubei. It comprises private 5G networks to cover all kinds of operations like production and warehousing which minimized the overall labor cost by 30%.
Now Huawei has opened Southeast Asia’s fully 5G-connected factory along with partners like Midea, Advanced Info Service (AIS) in Thailand, and China Unicom.
Further details reveal that this is the first factory from Midea developed outside China and serves as one of the largest AC production platforms in the region. It will use techs like 5G, AI, big data, and cloud computing to build superior-quality products.
Apart from AC production, the fully 5G-connected factory will also bring Industry 4.0 benefits to the table. It will boost digital transformation with AI solutions. Thus the annual productivity progress could rise by $627 billion in the region by the next year.
The General Manager of Midea Thailand AC firm – Vincent Cai says that the new 5G smart factory will lay the foundation of future manufacturing. It will eventually ease production and enrich the operation efficiency by at least 15 to 20 percent.
Huawei’s role:
Report highlights that Huawei has significantly contributed to the 5G evolution over the past few years. The CTO of Huawei Thailand Woragarn Likhitdechasakdi states that the company will remain committed to tying up with industrial partners to accelerate 5G value.
“To achieve this goal, we will actively engage with our customers to understand their digital strategies. By delving into production processes and identifying specific needs, we aim to share valuable experiences and best practices that accelerate the adoption of 5G for intelligent manufacturing upgrades.”
Huawei continues to power up smart manufacturing by triggering 5G and better technical solutions in the regions. This is just the beginning and we could see more happenings in this matter in the time ahead.
