Huawei and Apple leads Chinese premium smartphone market in Q3 2024
Huawei and Apple have taken the lead in the Chinese premium smartphone race for Q3 2024. Both tech giants are dominating the flagship-level device category in China. While the iPhone maker is at the top, the Chinese OEM is closely following it.
Canalys has released a report on the Chinese premium smartphone market for Q3 2024, highlighting Huawei and Apple. The former showed a strong comeback in the battle while the latter is firmly holding its shares despite a slowdown in iPhone sales.
The sales of Huawei phones above $600 significantly increased by 34% YoY in September this year. It ranked second in the premium phone sector with a market share of 33%. The firm is constantly marching forward with its innovative products.
Huawei made a leap in the Chinese smartphone market last year with the Mate 60 series. Since then, the OEM continued to perform better in its home ground.
Further details reveal that Huawei sold around 1.12 million folding phones from July to September this year. It progressed 97% from the last year and left many of its rivals behind in the foldable race. You can check the full report HERE.
Mate XT – the world’s first tri-fold also helped boost the company’s foldable phone sales in China. These innovative products attracted a lot of support in the market.
Apple on the other hand is seeing a decline of 5% in iPhone shipments. The company has topped the premium smartphone race with the largest market share – 52%.
Despite a top position, the US tech giant is facing challenges in iPhone sales in China. The company is dealing with fierce competition from its Chinese rivals in the market. Another drawback is the “AI-less” iPhone 16 series on the consumer ground.
Yet the good news is that it still leads the premium handset shipments.
iPhone 15 Pro Max has led the Chinese premium smartphone race whereas, the Pura 70 series obtained the sixth position among the high-end phones in China.
Other rankers in the list include Honor with 5% of the market share and a growth of 30% YoY, Xiaomi with an 88% annual growth rate, and Samsung with a decline of 11%.
In terms of the global market, Apple and Samsung grabbed the first and second spots respectively for their AI-powered handsets. Huawei obtained third place with 8% market share. Google and Honor are following the Pura 70 maker with a 2% market share.
