IDC has published its latest analysis on the Q1 2024 global tablet market where Huawei and some other tech vendors have scored well enough. The highlight is that among several contenders, Huawei is in second place in terms of YoY growth rate.

The research firm says that a booming recovery in Huawei’s smartphone business has helped the OEM a lot to excel in the global tablet market. As a result, the company managed to jump from 6.6% market share (Q123) to 9.4 directly this year.

Speaking of the other top 5 vendors

Apple has obtained first place in the Q1 worldwide tablet market. Although the firm’s growth declined to 8.5% YoY with 9.9 million units of tablet shipment. The company has mainly focused on wiping out old stuff before launching new models.

Samsung is second in this race with 6.7 million units of shipment but a drop of 5.8% in YoY growth. The report cites the lack of new products and increasing competition in the market has pulled Samsung from the top position. Yet the South Korean firm is working on bringing better tablets with AI features and capabilities for consumers.

Lenovo appeared in the fourth rank with a shipment of 2.1 million units and 13.2% YoY growth. Xiaomi shows up in fifth with a massive growth of 92.6% YoY among all the tablet vendors and shipped around 1.8 million units of tablets across the globe.

IDC notes that the global tablet market has now started showing signs of recovery after two years of unfavorable growth. The first quarter of 2024 saw a rise of 0.5% with 30.8 million unit shipments. The senior analyst at IDC – Anuroopa Nataraj says:

“The real gains will come from the next refresh cycle, followed by growth within commercial segments as more tablets are used in the education sector and the gig economy.”
