During China International Big Data Industry Expo 2019 in Guiyang in Guiyang, Huawei Vice president Lu Yong, has delivered a speech, where he said that Huawei has truly achieved global leadership in the field of 5G.
He said the total patent counts of the US companies have accounts less than 15%, while Huawei accounts for a total of 20% of the total 5G patents in the world, including more than 16,000 patents.
Huawei executives said that from 2009 to 2018, Huawei invested nearly 2 billion US dollars (about 13.8 billion RMB) for 5G technology’s research and development. He believes that Huawei’s 5G end-to-end solution is more than a year ahead of its industry rivals.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Huawei founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, told that Trump administration export curbs will cut into a two-year lead Huawei had painstakingly built over rivals like Ericsson and Nokia. But the company will either ramp up its own chip supply or find alternatives to keep its edge in smartphones and 5G.
In mid-May, Trump’s announced national emergency session and the US Commerce Department added Huawei into the trade blacklist and imposed restrictions that’ll make it very difficult for the company to do business with American firms and to get new component and software services that it requires.
Lu said despite the enormous external challenges, today’s Chinese communications industry can proudly say that we have achieved global leadership in the 5G industry.
