Huawei 5G technology still used in many EU countries, despite ban: Report
Huawei 5G technology counts as one of the best network solutions, which is why many EU countries still prefer it, despite ban issues. As per a new report, most EU members have not enforced any restrictions on Huawei’s 5G equipment, so far.
Recently, a spokesperson from the EU Commission shed light on this matter and said that though many members have prohibited using Huawei and ZTE 5G technology in favor of the ban, a few countries have continued to use them.
Giving examples, the spokesperson added Sweden and Latvia are at the top when it comes to using Huawei and ZTE’s 5G equipment. Besides, the report describes that countries like Germany affirm that all telecom operators would remove all critical components from their 5G core networks by 2026.
A major reason many EU countries stick to Huawei and ZTE 5G equipment is that Europe is at a snail’s speed in bringing the next-gen networks. This also affects the use of new technologies like AI and other advanced components.
One of the telecom lobby groups – ETNO says that the EU requires more amount of investment to obtain the ‘full 5G and full gigabit coverage’ goal by the decade’s end.
Huawei and EU: History
Back in 2018, the EU, the U.S., and Japan enforced certain Chinese firms including Huawei and ZTE, blaming them for bugging their telecom networks and sharing data with Chinese state connections.
Even though Huawei denied such allegations and claimed that it’s a private company run by its employees, the authorities didn’t approve its equipment and products in the nation. Yet, many countries still believe that Huawei 5G technology is proficient and responsive for both operators and consumers.
