Yu Chengdong, Executive Director and CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group is expecting big progress in the operating system market via the OpenHarmony software.

The Huawei CEO said that OpenHarmony has become the fastest-growing operating system. There are currently more than 110 commercial devices and more than 100 models running this software.

There are already 28 release versions based on OpenHarmony that have been applied in various fields such as education, finance, transportation, and mining, and have built an information infrastructure base for thousands of industries.

OpenAtom Foundation has started the first OpenHarmony Technology Summit with the theme of “Technology Building the Intelligent Connection of Everything”. OpenHarmony is a smart device operating system for the Internet of Everything era, with different features, such as:

  • Hardware mutual assistance, resource sharing
  • One-time development and multi-platform deployment
  • Unified OS, flexible deployment

In 2020, Huawei announced the HarmonyOS as open source. Since then, Huawei is releasing new versions of this operating system. Also, its system capabilities have been continuously improved, and the ecosystem construction is taking a new shape.

During the summit, Hou Peixin, chairman of the OpenHarmony project group working committee, shared the current progress of the OpenHarmony ecosystem. Currently, the OpenHarmony system capabilities are gradually maturing, with more than 5,100 co-builders and 51 co-builders participating in code co-construction. A total of nearly 100 million lines of code have been produced.

Mr. Peixin mentioned that OpenHarmony made key breakthroughs in six industries including finance, transportation, education, and government affairs. In 2023, the Open Atom Foundation is aiming OpenHarmony to start building a general northbound ecosystem and attract more northbound developers to create real killer apps.

He believes that no matter how powerful the operating system is and how many southbound use cases there are, if there is a lack of rich northbound applications, OpenHarmony will not be able to complete the mission of becoming a new digital base.
