Huawei and Samsung were suspected to be the only two rivals in the triple-foldable race. But it seems Honor could be a new competitor in this game. The new input reveals that Honor could compete with Huawei for the ‘first tri-fold’ phone crown.

Honor reportedly revealed its new plans for foldable in an interview. After unveiling the Magic V3 fold phone, the company’s CEO – Zhao Ming attended an interrogation.

During the interview, Zhao mentioned that the company is exploring creative ways for its folding line. He adds that many new patent applications are already underway related to new foldables like a tri-fold, scrollable folding device, and more.

“In terms of patent layout, Honor has already laid out a variety of technologies such as tri-fold, scroll, etc.”

Starting this year, Honor launched its first flip-flop model – Magic V Flip. The device comes with the largest cover screen so far. It gives a new experience of operating various applications on the cover screen without even unfolding the device.

It seems the company has more devices to unveil for the first time like a triple foldable. But it’s unclear whether this invention will release this year or by 2025.

Thus, not only one but Huawei could have two challengers in the tri-fold phone race including Honor. The former is still working on its triple-folding handset. As per early inputs, this new device could be 10-inch large and adopt a Z form factor.

The device may use the UTG (Ultra-Thin-Glass) solution to reduce crease and prevent common folding issues that consumers often complain about. Huawei may introduce it by the fourth quarter of this year. Yet an official confirmation awaits.

Samsung, on the other hand, is unlikely to launch a tri-foldable this year. The South Korean company is said to have delayed this subject in favor of better technologies and effective improvements such as “thinnerness” over previous folding phones.

It would be interesting to see how Honor will make its alleged tri-fold phone different and more advanced than its rivals in the consumer market.
