Honor Magic 6 will bring satellite communication, confirms Honor chief
Honor recently released Honor 100 smartphones and its chief in charge also started to gain attention for the upcoming Honor Magic 6 series with a big confirmation.
During a conversation with the media on the sidelines of the Honor 100 press conference, Honor CEO Zhao Ming said that his company is still improving the smartphone.
Honor is polishing the phone so that consumers don’t brick the phone right after the unboxing, he emphasized the importance of selling a well-produced device.
MagicOS:
Honor Magic 6 series will bring MagicOS 8 pre-installed and it’s expected to be based on Android 14. The phone is using a large language model to provide better AI features powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
Satellite Communication:
Zhao at the media conference revealed that the Honor Magic 6 series will be equipped with Satellite Communication technology.
He said that Honor has been working on satellite communication tech for a long time and the company may have included this feature in the Magic 5 series but hold out the plans. However, Zhao didn’t confirm whether the Magic 6 series will support only SMS or calling capability.
For now, Huawei is the only phone maker in the industry with both satellite SMS and satellite capability in its smartphones. The latest Huawei Mate 60 Pro is the first smartphone to feature satellite calling and users can dial a number without a native mobile network.
More Chinese phone makers are pushing boundaries to harness this new capability in their upcoming devices but these launches are yet to come on stage. Still, it would be interesting to see satellite communication making its debut in the Honor campaign with the upcoming Magic 6.
