Honor CEO is happy with Huawei’s return in smartphone industry
Recently, Honor launched its latest Magic V2 side folding smartphone, and its CEO, George Zhao expressed happiness with Huawei’s return to the smartphone industry. Zhao’s latest comment came on the sidelines of the IFA 2023.
During a media conference, the Honor Chief responded to a question related to Huawei. He congratulated Huawei “Congratulations to me old collogues, I am really happy for them”.
“The (mobile phone) industry is full of people because of Huawei’s return. Possibility and charm. The pressure on the mobile phone market has never been less. I think that making the market more competitive is a good thing for this industry to be more valuable and attractive. If you expect the opponent to be weak and grow by yourself, this state will make you become the weak one yourself.” said Zhao (translated).
In 2020, Huawei sold Honor to a Chinese business group. Since then, Honor rejoined all of the partnerships with US companies including Qualcomm and Google. Its latest phones come with pre-installed GMS services and the latest Snapdragon chipsets. The phone maker continues to unveil new models with new technologies, Magic V2 is the latest example of these unveilings.
On this occasion, Zhao also talked about the Honor V Purse, an outward folding phone. It looks similar to the Huawei Mate Xs 2 but the company claims the phone is slimmer and thinner than the Huawei counterpart. He said that Honor V Purse is a fashion and lifestyle product, which gives it a different spotlight.
“The mobile phones that may fold outward are currently being made by Honor and Huawei, so everyone will compare the two intuitively,” added Zhao.
Huawei and Honor were brothers in arms before the separation, which emphasizes the new importance of Huawei’s return to the smartphone industry as a competitor.
