On January 23, 2021, at Huawei‘s annual conference, Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software shared the current progress of HarmonyOS (Hongmeng OS) and demonstrated four real-world use case demonstrations on the stage.

Wang revealed that the HarmonyOS comes with the most important and innovative wireless connection features that replace the requirement of the traditional hardware systems.

He also presented four real-world scenarios to demonstrate HarmonyOS capabilities of Smart Screens, Smartphones, Applications, and more. Let check them in detail below.

HarmonyOS Home Appliance:

Users only need to touch the NFC tag of the Smart Home appliances such as Smart Oven and automatically displays all of the control interfaces and supports displaying online recipes.

HarmonyOS Shopping Application:

This demo includes an e-commerce app – JD, when a user opens JD app and touches another smartphone, the same shopping cart and interface shares on the second device. The main thing is, the sharing of this information doesn’t require the second user to install the JD app, while the shopping cart then is shared by both of the users, which makes the shopping more convenient and fun.

HarmonyOS Video Projection:

In this demonstration, when a user connects the phone to a Smart TV on the same network, the video feed automatically detects and automatically transfers to the big screen. While the app interface such as comment and shopping options also auto-adjusts to appear on the left and the right sides of the video (in the center). This entire process makes the video projects from mobile to TVs more enjoyable and interactive.

Furthermore, while playing a 360 panoramic video on the smart TV, the smartphone automatically controls the interface and let you position the video through your phone.

HarmonyOS Multi-Person Conference Feature:

With HarmonyOS, users can conduct multi-person conferences and present their own ideas in the same presentation.

HarmonyOS in 2021:

HarmonyOS is a new microkernel-based, distributed operating system designed to deliver a diverse user experience across all devices and scenarios.

At HDC 2020, Huawei announced HarmonyOS 2.0, which supports new platforms such as smart wearables, car hud, tablets as well as smartphones. In December last year, Huawei also launched the first HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile beta for the developers.

Wang said, this is the first year of HarmonyOS and the company is looking to install it on 300-400 million devices by the end of this year. Also, HarmonyOS ecosystem can be opened to third-party developers and consumers can expect the launch of the HarmonyOS smartphone by this year.
