HarmonyOS

HarmonyOS (Hongmeng OS, Hongmeng) is an operating system developed by Huawei. HarmonyOS has a micro-kernel architecture designed to work based on a multi-platform ecosystem.

On August 10, 2019, this software was introduced at Huawei Developer Conference 2019 (HDC 2019) and initially introduced for Smart screen devices (Smart TVs). At HDC 2020, HarmonyOS 2.0 adopted smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, IoT devices, home consumer products, smart car screens, and other third-party devices.

HarmonyOS works across different devices such as smartphones and has open-source code. The HarmonyOS project currently uses Android Open Source Project (AOSP) branch to support Android apps.

HarmonyOS has DSoftBus distributed capabilities that form different hardware devices and make a virtual Super Device. This feature allows users to control connected device and their user interface using a single smartphone or tablet.

The operating system comes with Huawei’s App distribution platform – AppGallery. It publishes both Android and HarmonyOS Native applications.
