HarmonyOS upgrade plan for Huawei phones suggested again, might cover devices even with Kirin 710 chipset [List]

In 2019, Huawei first time introduced the self-developed operating system, HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS. Moving on, at HDC 2020, Huawei unveiled the second version of this OS, HarmonyOS 2.0 with distributed capabilities to provide a seamless cross-device user experience.

In April, Huawei will announce the much-awaited HarmonyOS software system and will pave a way to install this software in more devices as it proceeds with the schedule and maximizes the number of HarmonyOS.

According to the latest information coming from Weibo tipster, Digital King, Huawei will send HarmonyOS update to most of its devices, which covers a big list of Huawei models and allowing users to use HarmonyOS.

Currently, Huawei is working on the compatibility issues and solving them to install HarmonyOS in most of the phones and even the ones that were launched 2-3 years ago.

The tipster suggests that Huawei will send the HarmonyOS update for the phones that were launched with Kirin processors and may include phones with an entry range chipset Kirin 710. However, we’ll have to wait for more information on this matter.

Aside from the Kirin 710, the tipster reveals that Huawei has planned a big roadmap for other Kirin powered devices including the following:

• Kirin 810
• Kirin 990
• Kirin 980
• Kirin 990 5G
• Kirin 820
• Kirin 985
• Kirin 990E
• Kirin 820E
• Kirin 9000
• Kirin 9000E

It’s possible that the company may add more devices and processors in the upgrade pipeline but still, we don’t have an official confirmation on this matter because there’s more. Also, not all devices powered by each processor may get a slot in the Huawei HarmonyOS distribution.

Wang Chenglu, President of the Huawei Consumer Business Software Department had previously told media that around 90% of Huawei models available in the market will be upgraded with the HarmonyOS.

To be mentioned, a few months ago a similar timeline has been shared by a Huawei tipster and now a confirmation from Digital Jun is likely to cement this claim.

If Huawei really planing to provide this much of coverage to the older models, then it would definitely be awesome and make most of its smartphone owners happy. Meanwhile, a clear confirmation on devices would be required that would come in April.

Plans with the HarmonyOS:

Previously, Huawei Software Chief also suggested that the company will install HarmonyOS in over 200 million smartphones this year and the company will continue to upgrade the features. Furthermore, the company will expand the reach of the HarmonyOS to third-party device makers including IoT, smart home appliances as well as other important platforms.

HarmonyOS 2.0 beta testing:

Back in December 2020, Huawei released the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developers beta as well as opened the device enrollment for HarmonyOS beta testing. The device includes Huawei P40, P40 Pro, Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, and MatePad Pro.

Following the beta activity, the company has delivered the first HarnonyOS beta update, which doesn’t have a changelog and only has a one-line greeting for the developers.
