Update: Official Announcement:
Following the story below, Huawei has officially announced the 50 million HarmonyOS installations in China.
Original Story:
On August 6, the Chinese media – CCTV compiled and released a report that shows Huawei HarmonyOS upgrades have now exceeded 50 million downloads. This new data appeared after Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO – Yu Chengdong announced 40 million HarmonyOS user achievements at the P50 series launch conference on July 29.
It’s also informed that around 8 Huawei smartphone users are installing HarmonyOS 2 on their device per second in China. The 50 million downloads are surely an achievement of the HarmonyOS.
According to the data, Microsoft and Apple still occupy the main positions in the computer operating system market. On the other hand, Android and iOS have the major lead in the global smartphone market.
The report quotes industry insiders too, these suggest that the key to building a new operating system is to build an operating system ecosystem.
HarmonyOS Milestones:
HarmonyOS 2 was launched on July 2, 2021. Since then, this new OS completed 10 million installations in under one week, followed by 18 million upon the completion of 15 days.
On July 8, the Chinese tech maker officially confirmed that HarmonyOS installation has exceeded 30 million active users.
Why increasing rapidly?
HarmonyOS for smartphones comes with various new features and a brand new user interface. The software’s core architecture is designed to work seamlessly with different types of smart devices.
Therefore, the user experience has been improved compared to the Android-based EMUI. Furthermore, HarmonyOS 2 supports a long list of devices, which includes very old devices that have long been removed from the monthly or quarterly updates system.
For example, Huawei will install HarmonyOS 2 in smartphones including Huawei Nova 3, Mate 9 and P10. These devices were launched 4 years ago and the current owners of these smartphones surely want to jump on the HarmonyOS and will further increase the installation mark.
Global users:
Aside from the Chinese consumers, Huawei has also sold millions of devices in the global market, think about what would happen once this operating system reaches the global variants. Yet, Huawei has not come up with a perfect rollout plan for overseas devices.
