HarmonyOS NEXT 5.0.0.107 public beta brings several new camera features

Huawei is rolling out a giant HarmonyOS NEXT public beta update for its eligible devices with the 5.0.0.107 version. The latest firmware packs a set of new features for camera, phone, and device’s system. It also improves some existing capabilities.

The company has been pushing new features to its compatible models with HarmonyOS NEXT testing versions. But those builds brought a simple changelog.

Although the latest HarmonyOS NEXT 5.0.0.107 public beta unlocks a list of amazing features for every section of the device. It introduces significant gestures and capabilities for the camera, new tools to improve call experience, and more.

Notably, some eligible phone holders predicted that this could be the last beta version before the stable HarmonyOS NEXT upgrade. Hence, ensure to install this upgrade as soon as it reaches your device. Or else, you may miss new enhancements.

HarmonyOS NEXT 5.0.0.107 firmware is approaching the Mate 60 series, Pura 70 series, Mate X5, Pocket 2, MatePad Pro 13.2, and MatePad Pro 11 2024 devices.

The firmware holds a software package of 2.4GB. Make sure to have good enough storage in your device and use a standard internet connection for installation.

Features:

Speaking of the new features, users will find a new Smile Capture feature, quick gestures, and a ring-fill light effect in the camera. The software also has smart noise reduction capability to improve the calling experience.

Camera

• In normal photo mode, long press the camera button and swipe left to take continuous pictures or swipe right to record video. The switch is now more flexible and you can capture beautiful moments faster.
• Added the screen-off quick shot feature. When the screen is off or locked, users can quickly press the volume down button twice to quickly open the camera and take a photo.
• Added a new ring fill light effect for selfies. When using the front-facing camera to take photos or videos, the ring-fill light allows you to make more satisfying selfies. (Path: Open the front-facing camera interface > click the arrow below the camera treasure box > fill light).
• New Panorama Mode: Press the shutter and move slowly in the arrow direction to take pictures with a wider perspective.
• New Smile Capture feature: After turning on this feature in the camera settings, it will automatically capture an image, every time you see it with a smiling face.
• Added a new front-facing selfie beauty effect in the night mode to take beautiful selfies at night.
• Added new beauty effects, video watermarks, and motion anti-shake switches to the video recording function. These add-ons will help to shoot better-quality videos.
• Add a new dynamic photo switch to the top of the normal photo mode. Turn it on to take dynamic photos. Long press the ‘dynamic photo’ switch in the gallery to preview the respective image.
• Enable the automatic watermark switch in the settings, and the photos taken with the rear camera can automatically add the model logo and date.

Phone

• Added smart dual SIM feature. Insert two SIM cards and turn on this feature in the SIM card management page. It will automatically switch SIM cards as per network quality and call status.
• Added support for incoming call voice broadcast. When receiving an incoming call, the call info will be broadcast by voice.
• Added support for outgoing call voice control. Say ‘hang up’ to end the call.
• Newly added support for smart noise reduction feature for calls, which reduces or blocks the surrounding ambient sound and allows your voice to be clearer for the other party.
• Users can further improve call quality and enhance their calling experience during a call by allowing the use of Wi-Fi or mobile data. (Path: Phone > Settings > Advanced > Improve Call Quality)

MeeTime

• You can turn off the camera during a video call.
• You can send files via MeeTime Message.

Contacts

• Smartly identifies and merges duplicate contacts

Recorder

• Added support to retrieve recently deleted recordings

System Setup

• Added support for smart cover mode. When opening and closing the leather case, the screen will be automatically locked/unlocked. It also supports information display and operation adapted to the leather case window.
• Added support for face recognition when wearing a mask. When enabled, face recognition can easily identify the unique features of the eyes even when the person is wearing a mask.
• Added display and brightness eye protection mode with color adjustment and temperature features.

Smart Multi-Window

• The sidebar supports editing features to easily add or delete app shortcut icons to the sidebar. It makes it easier to open smart multi-window (Swipe from the side to the screen and pause to bring up the side. Click the icon at the bottom and then click the edit icon.)

Smart Voice

• Celia has added a new knuckle circle feature. One can circle on any screen element with their knuckles and ask related questions to Celia. It will actively understand the circled content and provide multi-modal answers. The feature will also show the next step based on your intentions and quickly recommend services for high-frequency features.
• Wake up Celia and give voice commands to let it help you make a MeeTime call.

System

• Added a preview feature in the SuperHub Transfer. One can click on the content to preview it while sharing.
• Added accessory collaborative update feature that enables users to update the firmware of the connected devices such as earbuds or glasses on the phone’s software update page.
• Added smartwatch-assisted update feature that can update the firmware of connected smartwatch in the device interface of the Health app.
