TechInsights released a new report showing that HarmonyOS captured a market share of 15% in Q3 2024 in China. Huawei’s latest OS version unexpectedly increased the company’s revenue in the Chinese smartphone OS market for the third quarter.

Huawei is giving tough competition to its foreign rivals Apple and Google on its home turf. The current operating system report highlights this statement better.

As per the details, HarmonyOS market share has increased by 15% in the Chinese consumer market for Q3 2024. Huawei received this achievement following the HarmonyOS NEXT launch. The new OS brings many smarter and safer features.

Earlier, HarmonyOS had a market share of 13% with a limited range of users. But after the launch of HarmonyOS NEXT, its market share jumped to 15%.

Apple iOS secured a stable market share of 15% in China for Q3 2024. It neither gained nor fell from its original place, in terms of OS. Although the Android operating system faced a decline this time. It has fallen from 72% (last year) to 70%.

The report highlights that HarmonyOS ate up Android’s market share in China following the new version. Huawei’s latest HarmonyOS NEXT uses self-developed components and eliminates the use of Android and its internal elements.

Note that it’s not the first time when HarmonyOS pushed off Android and iOS in the Chinese market. Huawei’s operating system left iOS behind in China for Q1 2024 by scoring excellent grades and achieving double market share globally.

A major reason why Huawei HarmonyOS is taking over Android and iOS is the native support. Chinese consumers are backing Huawei in every field, prohibiting foreign products in the country. Many Chinese firms restricted iPhone use in the past months.

On the other hand, HarmonyOS NEXT has proven to be better in terms of smoothness, security, and AI features, than iOS. It offers a cleaner, nicer, and simpler UI for the best user experience. Security remains at its peak with protected app installations and other capabilities.

HarmonyOS NEXT supports native apps. It means the OS is compatible only with HarmonyOS version-based applications with far better features and doesn’t support Android ones. This is another reason why most of the users are shifting towards HarmonyOS over Android/iOS.

HarmonyOS seems ready to share the world with Android and iOS. It won’t be a two-player battle anymore. With better app features and capabilities, HarmonyOS may soon become the largest smartphone OS in China.
