Huawei has started pushing HarmonyOS 3.0 developer beta software build for registered phone users and the company is also making sure that most of the eligible models get it as soon as possible. However, there is some information that has just been dropped regarding HarmonyOS 3.0 relationship with Android 12.

According to the information coming from a Weibo tipster, Huawei HarmonyOS 3.0 operating system is compatible with Android 12, which is a major element that we’ve to come at but it’s not surprising as it looks.

A software page of the HarmonyOS 3.0 installed Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 tablet shows that the HarmonyOS 3.0 beta has Android 12 S support (API 31), the latest stable software release of Google’s Android operating system.

The tablet is running HarmonyOS 3.0 beta 2, which comes, which has project treble support (VNDK 31.0), java runtime version Android Runtime 0.9, and Java Virtual Machine ART 2.1.0. There are a bunch of other details that have been revealed in the specs sheet but these are the essential ones.

According to recent data, Android 12 has been one of the most popular Android versions up to date with over 11.9 percent installation on smartphones. This version brings new features to ease the user interface and increased the looks and feels of the Material You design system.

Currently, the software has the latest version 12.1.0_r8. However, it has already been an entire year since the release of Android 12, and now, Google is preparing to launch the official version of Android 13, which has reached stability mode after recent beta testing.

HarmonyOS and Android?

Huawei has built HarmonyOS with Android branches (libraries, supported frameworks) that help the HarmonyOS users to run Android applications, as the HM OS app ecosystem is still growing and native apps are low in numbers. Since Android is open-source software, Huawei continues to use Android support libraries and open-source branches to run Android apps alongside HarmonyOS apps.

This is quite a strategy that Huawei is using for the time being and the company may quit Android branches, once there is enough HarmonyOS app on the AppGallery.

HarmonyOS beta:

Currently, Huawei is testing HarmonyOS under the developer beta label and the Chinese tech maker will further reveal the details of this operating system later this month.
