German minister warns Huawei ban could delay 5G rollout up to 10 years

The US wants its ally countries to ban Huawei but Germany has not removed the top telecom equipment maker from the list of firms that can take part in the country’s 5G network development.

Germany’s Interior Minister Horst Seehofer has warned that if Huawei is excluded from the country’s 5G rollout, it could delay the 5G for as long as five or ten years, reports SputnikNews.

“I don’t see that we can set up a 5G network in Germany at short notice without Huawei’s participation”, the minister told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, noting that Germany needs to develop capabilities for it first.

The US alleges Huawei of being a security risk and will use its equipment to steal the consumer’s data, these allegations are declined by Huawei.

Seehofer noted that Germany does not want to block the Chinese telecom giant from the market and neither wants to compromise national security. He noted that security is a priority, promising that if it is necessary, Germany could deploy additional safety measures.
