Former Huawei HiSilicon employee flees to MediaTek: Report
A few days ago, Wang Chenglu, the head of the Huawei Consumer Business Group head, also known as the “Father of HarmonyOS” transferred himself to another company. Now, former Huawei HiSilicon executives join MediaTek.
According to the reports, MediaTek has hired a former Huawei HiSilicon executive (executive director) to be in charge of chip research and development, mainly to enhance its ability to develop high-performance processors (HPC), servers, and base station chips, and custom ASICs. No specific ex-HiSilicon executive was mentioned.
Huawei HiSilicon is a chip designing subsidiary that is mainly known for its Kirin mobile chipset. However, after U.S. sanctions, the company has been not allowed to print new chipsets via the likes of TSMC, which has greatly affected the new Huawei smartphone production.
The director of Huawei, Chen Lifang has formerly stated that Huawei continues to develop world-leading semiconductor components within, and the HiSilicon department will not make any settlement to restructure staff or stop making new designs for future use cases.
Xu Zhijun, then vice-chairman and rotating chairman of Huawei also said-” There is no place to produce any HiSilicon’s chips, and it’s not profitable yet, and Huawei has no appeal for profitability. But Huawei will keep on supporting the development of this team. The team can continue to do research, to accumulate, develop, and prepare for the future.
As per the information, it is not revealed, which of the former HiSilicon executive has joined MediaTek and what was his designation.
