EU countries can restrict or exclude some 5G providers from core parts of their 5G telecom network, reveals a guideline document seen by Reuters.

The document is a set of recommendations and measures aimed at addressing cybersecurity risks at the national and EU wide levels. The guidelines suggest EU nations to build multi-vendor networks and diversify equipment provider access to the network.

To be mentioned the document did not target or mention any company or country to be excluded in the 5G development in the EU.

The European Union won’t ban Huawei or any other 5G equipment vendors when the bloc unveils guidelines for member states to mitigate security risks, reports CNBC.

The EU will unveil a set of recommended measures that are “naturally strict and vigilant” at the end of January, European Digital Commissioner Thierry Breton said at a news conference in Paris on Monday. No companies will be explicitly excluded in the EU’s recommendations, he said.

Over the past year, the U.S. is keep pursuing EU members to drop Huawei from their 5G network infrastructure, citing Huawei poses a national security threat of which Huawei has repeatedly denied.

Despite these US efforts, most of Huawei’s commercial 5G contracts came from the European operators counting more than half of its total commercial contracts.
