It’s reported that Huawei will launch the latest version of EMUI, EMUI 11.1 in March, which will lay the foundation of the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile beta. The EMUI 11.1 will shift its kernel from Android to HarmonyOS and make a way for the rollout of the HarmonyOS 2.0 update for old Huawei smartphones.

Meanwhile, it’s also expected that the EMUI 11.1 will be the last software version and the company will no longer develop a new EMUI version. On the other side, the company will shift its focus to HarmonyOS and will bring it into the mainstream for smartphones, replacing EMUI.

In 2019, Huawei launched HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS, which is built on the foundation of distributed technology. This enables the operating system to create cross-device connections and provide a seamless user experience.

Last December, the Chinese tech giant announced the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta and started testing it on P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro devices. However, an early hand-on video reveals that the HarmonyOS user interface is very similar to the EMUI but the company has confirmed that it’ll revamp the UI, once it’ll reach a stable level.

Apart from launching a new HarmonyOS smartphone, Huawei also confirmed that old Huawei devices will also upgrade over HarmonyOS and it may begin by the end of this year.

Wang Chenglu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Software previously said that Huawei has aimed to install HarmonyOS in 300-400 million devices by 2021. These products include smartphones, tablets, wearables, IoT devices as well as smart home appliances.
