Last year, at Huawei Developer Conference 2020, Huawei announced the 11th iteration of EMUI – EMUI 11. This new EMUI version brings a number of new features as well as system improvements that help to improve the user experience.

After the announcement, Huawei announced EMUI 11 beta for flagship smartphones including P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro tablet. The company later expanded the beta program to more devices followed the stable release.

As of now, EMUI 11 has covered around 37 devices in China. On the other hand, the Chinese tech giant has laid out its plan to send EMUI 11 for the global users of its smartphones throughout the first quarter of 2021.

Amid the “yet to receive EMUI 11” discussion, Huawei has already planned to reveal a new version of its mobile software and it’s being said that this could be the last EMUI build.

According to a Weibo tipster – DigitalChatStation, the last EMUI version, EMUI 11.1 is tentatively scheduled to launch in March 2021 and it’ll come with HarmonyOS Kernel as the default kernel.

Since the launch of Huawei P20, every year Huawei introduces the flagship P-series smartphones with a step version of EMUI, such as EMUI 8.1, 9.1, and 10.1. This year, the launch of EMUI 11.1 will happen with the upcoming Huawei P50 and it’s expected to unveil in March.

After the rollout of EMUI 11.1, Huawei will no longer develop the new version of EMUI and will rollout software systems based on HarmonyOS. Therefore, the EMUI 11.1 will be the founding stone of the HarmonyOS in the smartphone ecosystem.

Currently, Huawei has not revealed its plans for the HarmonyOS rollout for existing smartphones but we’ll likely get a look into this matter post-EMUI 11.1 launch.

First launched at HDC 2019, HarmonyOS (Hongmeng OS) build upon the foundation of distributed technology that enables the software to establish cross-device connections and provide a seamless user experience.

In December 2020, Huawei announced HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile developer beta and rolled it out for the eligible devices. The company has also planned to launch the first HarmonyOS powered smartphone this year.

Moreover, Huawei has big plans for 2021 and the company is working to create a seamless interconnected device user experience with the help of its HarmonyOS. The company aimed to install HarmonyOS in over 300-400 million devices, these include various smart products such as smartphones, in-car systems, IoT devices as well as home appliances.
