HarmonyOS
Do you think Huawei sparked the trend of self-developed software system?
Over the past few months, the discussion on self-developed software systems has reached a new height in the Chinese smartphone industry but this trend seemingly started after the success of Huawei HarmonyOS.
Some media analysts said that currently, Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Honor have launched a self-developed mobile software ecosystem, and it all began to happen after HarmonyOS.
Huawei’s advantages in the field of multi-device collaboration and successful adaption by various third-party manufacturers have raised the bar of self-driven technologies in the industry.
This has also increased confidence in the device makers to come up with their own ideas and pump them into production instead of keeping on waiting for the future. Although, most of them are still using Android as the base of their mobile skins but they could change the situation in the near future at least in the home market.
In the beginning, HarmonyOS appeared as a low-key Android-inspired software but over the past three years, the company proved it otherwise. The Chinese tech maker has established a whole new ecosystem consisting of many big Chinese software companies.
On the other hand, a wide variety of Huawei devices has increased HarmonyOS installations to over 700 million in China alone.
Meanwhile, Huawei is moving toward a full native user experience in China. The tech maker could also remove Android application support by next year to move toward a full HarmonyOS user experience. With this achievement, it would become the first-ever Chinese phone maker with a self-developed full-scale operating system with an independent application ecosystem.
With that being said, it would further encourage the Chinese smartphone industry to innovate more in the software field.
